Project: anti-BIOpollutant coatIng for reusabLe fiLtER

Acronym BIO-kILLER (Reference Number: MNET18/OTHR-3507)
Project Topic BIO-kILLER will develop innovative anti-biopollutant reusable filters, able to combine anti-pathogen functionalities with re-use after thermal treatment. BIO-kILLER coatings are based on nanoparticles embedded in a glass or ceramic matrix, effective in preventing bacteria, fungi, mould and virus proliferation, already proven to be efficient even after heating up to 450 °C in air. The filters will work for several industrial applications to remove bacteria and viruses not only from air, but also from lubricant fluids deriving from the cutting process of metals. The advantage of anti-biopollutant filtration is two-fold: first the positive societal impact, on health, safety and wellbeing of the entire population, especially in consideration of the relation between the antibiotic resistant superbugs and new airborne diseases. Second, the positive economic impact for the metal cutting industry: our BIO-kILLER filters will increase the lifetime of cutting fluids and equipment, reducing costs and increasing efficiency The BIO-kILLER coating will be used to obtain thermal re-generation of filters, a first-of-a-kind solution for both the air treatment and the metal cutting industry.
