Project: Cost effective Multi-Cancer Screening System with expansion to multi-cancer application

Early cancer detection is a CO concern for most of the European countries in order to decrease the mortality and increase the quality of life of their citizens. _x000D_ _x000D_ With a flexible multi-cancer Screening Software, the e-SIS project will be able to manage many types of cancer screening within a single management system (breast, colorectal, cervical, etc.).Every type of cancer screening requires a dedicated administrative workflow and a secured transmission system for digital medical data. Some interfaces with medical data providers (laboratories, radiology institutes, etc.) are also needed._x000D_ _x000D_ For example, according to European guidelines women over 50 years old should perform a screening mammography every two years. The mammography is performed in a Radiology Center and read on dedicated Workstations by two different Radiologists. If the diagnosis of the two radiologists do not match an additional reading is performed by a third radiologist. The women are then informed of the final diagnosis within a period of two weeks after the exam. The potential market for integrated and digitalised systems is large in Europe and in Middle East countries. Typically countries like France are expected to study a path to the digital file in the next years. _x000D_ Founded in 1994 as an ICT development and consulting company, CDI emerged as the technical leader of ICT systems in the area of Breast and Colorectal Cancer Screening. Today, CDI is positioned first on the Swiss market, which is at the forefront of Breast Cancer Screening Programs, following the national guidelines _x000D_ _x000D_ The system developed by CDI allows a complete digitalisation of the file associated to the women participating in the Swiss Breast Cancer Screening Program. _x000D_ This file contains:_x000D_ - identification data, _x000D_ - participation information (invitations, etc.), _x000D_ - medical reading result data as well as _x000D_ - screening mammographies produced in radiology center._x000D_ _x000D_ Key figures of CDI Breast Cancer Screening Digital System in Switzerland:_x000D_ - 9 Cantons using the system and others joining it every year_x000D_ - 58’400 women screened in 2012 in this 9 cantons_x000D_ - At least 20% increase every year_x000D_ - A number of 225’000 digital exams stored in the archive with 4 images each_x000D_ - A mean size of 120 MB for one exam (4 images)_x000D_ - yearly more than 200’000 images transferred securely over the Internet _x000D_ _x000D_ The leveraging of integrated digital solutions to the international scale of the health system requires major innovation steps, which exceed the capacity of CDI. This project consortium associates the core-competencies of the Turkish company Sesam and the competencies in colorectal and cervical cancer screening of Epiconcept with those of CDI. _x000D_ _x000D_ SESAM has a proven track record in software engineering and is very appreciated in the Turkish and Middle East markets for the quality of the software they produce. SESAM is also active since many years in the medical area of laboratories._x000D_ _x000D_ CDI, Sesam and Epiconcept together will have synergies on several levels:_x000D_ 1. Broad market understanding, which is compelling for the R&D process of the future solution. CDI has long term experience and direct contacts with opinion leaders in the advanced Swiss health system and in other European countries. Sesam has similar experience in the emerging markets of Middle East. Epiconcept is the leader in France and has contacts in Europe and north Africa markets._x000D_ 2. Joint capacities for technical innovation of the future ICT platform_x000D_ 3. Joint strategy for market penetration and commercialization, at which Sesam will focus on the Middle East markets, Epiconcept on French and North Africa market and CDI on the European ones. _x000D_ _x000D_ The CO innovation objectives to be achieved within this project consortium are:_x000D_ 1. Substantial decrease of operational costs of an integrated and digitalised solution. As an example, integrating the file transportation system should avoid additional license costs for an external system, simplify the COtenance of the software system, reduce hardware installation and COtenance costs in Radiology centers. Compared with existing solutions on Swiss market, the operational cost should be cut by 1/3._x000D_ 2. Substantial decrease of the overall screening process time. _x000D_ 3. Increased functional features:_x000D_ - Secure exchange of data between the geographically distributed and technically heterogeneous parties active in the program (Program administration, Radiology centers, Diagnostic radiologists);_x000D_ - Common procedural workflow for system users compliant with official European guidelines for Breast Cancer Screening programs;_x000D_ - Context dependent configurable workflow to give a high flexibility for the user;_x000D_ - Routing algorithms to optimize bandwidth management;_x000D_ - Decentralized/virtualized storage of data to satisfy any legal requirements;_x000D_ - Geolocalisation to enable epidemiology studies;_x000D_ - Normalized interfaces (IHE) for interoperability with other systems._x000D_ - multi cancer modules for colorectal and cervical screenings.
