Project: Metrology for chemical pollutants in air

Reliable indoor and outdoor measurements of chemical pollutants in air are required to underpin and implement EU air quality policies designed to maintain human health and the environment. Measurement improvements were required to comply with the challenging requirements of calibration gases, as set out in documentary European standards related to the Air Quality Directive (2008/50/EC) reference methods. This project has significantly contributed to fulfilment of the data quality objectives of the European air quality regulation and has provided metrological infrastructure to enable accurate and robust data of air pollution levels for short- and long-term assessment. Improved reference standards for ambient air monitoring and new reference materials and methods for indoor air monitoring have already been implemented by the EU air quality networks and emissions testing laboratories.
