Project: Decision Support Tool for management of the Baltic Sea Ecosystem

Acronym DESTONY (Reference Number: call2017-22)
Duration 01/10/2018 - 31/03/2020
Project Topic DESTONY will identify virtual decision support tools (DST) developed to assist ecosystem-based management of the Baltic Sea and its drainage basin, and analyze them against the current and anticipated future needs, with the aim of proposing further development. The review will encompass a variety of DST, from simple manually filled assessment tools to operational decision support systems producing end- and meta-products accessed by end-users. The different tools represent various components of the DPSIR / DAPSI(W)OR(M) framework, cover a wide field of disciplines, and vary in the degree of their availability and use – all these properties characterize them, and enable investigating their successfulness. The project will develop additional definitions and criteria to estimate the quality and performance of the DST, and apply these to evaluate the tools. In order to capture the management needs, as well as ensure information-exchange of project outcomes, end-users will be interactively involved in the co-creation process throughout the entire process. An internet-based catalogue will be created during the project as an information base of existing DST, aiming at a product that is updated and applicable by end-users also beyond the end of the project.
