EIT Governing Board has released a Vision Paper on EIT's role in FP10

The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Governing Board has published an update to its vision of the EIT's role in the next EU long-term budget (Multiannual Financial Framework), which will run from 2028 to 2034.

The paper reaffirms the two strategic objectives that lie at the heart of the EIT's future role:

  1. closing the innovation gap across Europe – particularly in widening countries through initiatives like the EIT Regional Innovation Booster – and
  2. closing the skills gap to deliver the talent needed for Europe’s competitiveness.

The EIT should be positioned as a key enabler of the European Commission's priorities, such as the recently adopted Union of Skills and the Startup and Scaleup Strategy, supporting the Clean Industrial Deal through enhanced innovation and skills development.

The board proposes improving the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) by introducing a more prescriptive, standardised governance system, simplified funding models, and fewer, more consolidated objectives.

The vision paper was developed independently by the EIT, with the European Commission acting as an observer on the governing board. It has been sent to the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the EU Council.
