Project: Robotic Winding of Electrical Motors

Acronym R4Win (Reference Number: MNET17/NMCS-2293)
Duration 01/12/2017 - 30/11/2019
Project Topic R4WIN aims at developing a robotized coils winding system, to be used in the electric motor manufacturing industry. Its approach is based on a reconfigurable interactive manufacturing cell, suitable to wind the coils of several kind of motors, basing on a simple interface that can be easily used by operators without specific skills in robotics. The challenging objectives of R4WIN will be attained following four research paths: 1. Development of a cell to robotize the manufacturing process of electric machines, in particular winding of coils on stator or rotor cores. 2. Development of a dedicated multi-purpose end effector to handle wires with precision, providing a precise force feedback in order to guarantee the good quality of the winding, and to perform pick and place operations. 3. Quality control performed online by the robot 4. Optimisation for winding permanent brushless machines with axially aligned stator poles, as indicated in ICPE patent request n° A00244 of 03.04.2015.
