Project: Improving PRINTing manufacturing technologies for affordable PoC self-testing analysis systems

Acronym PRINTPoC (Reference Number: MNET17/ADMA-1161)
Duration 01/01/2018 - 31/12/2019
Project Topic PRINTPoC proposal is focused on the evaluation and optimization of printing technologies to develop the next generation of affordable Point-of-Care (PoC) self-testing analysis systems. The proposal covers all the stages of the manufacturing chain for materials selection, integration of biological elements, reproducibility and environmental-friendly issues. The use of flexible substrates (including paper-based devices) and the improvement of the stability, selectivity and sensitivity by developing new inks based on nanomaterials and biological elements are still key points to be achieved. Printing technologies can be also combined with other manufacturing technologies for the integration of microfluidic parts. Microfluidic technologies enhance numerous advantages in diagnostic applications: smaller systems, small sample volume, near-patient technologies, reduced processing time as well as cost reduction. Therefore, combination of microfluidics and electrochemical sensors will offer cost-effective, simple, fast and handheld PoC devices letting patients to accurately self-test simultaneously clinical biomarkers (glucose, lactate, cholesterol and pepsin) for high prevalence diseases.
