Project: Patient-Oriented Manufacturing of an Innovative High Performance Robotic Elbow Prosthesis

The goal of the PROACTIVE project is to dramatically improve the performances and the production pipeline of robotic elbow prostheses through the following major innovations: - Faster and more comfortable production of the prosthesis, thanks to the digital scanning of amputee’s stump and CAD/CAM tools to minimise the inconveniences of prosthesis fitting. - Extreme improvement of system’s performances, through to the introduction of a dedicate, direct force/torque control, to be coupled with myoelectric electrodes for a deeper integration of the prosthesis. - More silent, overload resistant and effective mechanics, by introducing the SPACEGEAR, an innovative gearbox system coupling the nutation concept with bevel gears, in the geartrain of the device. The main outcomes of the PROACTIVE project will be the development of a manufacturing process which minimizes the patient’s discomforts during the prosthesis production and fitting and the fabrication of a totally innovative, high performance robotic elbow with built-in direct torque control.
