Project: Integrated Simulation System for Laser Surface Treatment of Complex Parts

The research of this project addresses the lack of automated optimization process system for laser surface treatment for parts with complex geometry shape in SMEs’ production. Within this project a close-loop optimization process is designed to enhance the production efficiency. Specifically process simulation will be deployed to acquire simulated treatment result based on the laser path generated by a customized CAM module, and the CAM planning will be re-adjusted based on the evaluation from the simulation result. To realize the close-loop process a coupling interface will be implemented for the communication between the simulation and the CAM software modules. With the concept of crosslinking the virtual world by simulation and the reality of laser process, this target system will significantly decrease the times of optimization iterations and hence to reduce the production time and cost, as well as to enhance the flexibility of the process chain to a wide range of products and process technologies even with fluctuation of requirements.
