Project: ARMKit - Advanced Rescue Medical Kit - an automated emergency system for initial treating medical cases until help arrives

Immediate medical assistance is critical to the success of life saving in emergency cases. In most cases medical personnel are not available when medical emergency cases occur. The solution is automated medical equipment that can be operated by anyone. _x000D__x000D_Automated External Defibrillators (AED), are rapidly becoming common in public sites and can be used by anyone in cases of cardiac emergency. Laws mandating AEDs in schools, gyms and other places are in place or being enacted around the world. The AED market has grown to well over $1B in recent years (see Appendix 2). Unfortunately, AEDs can solve only a fraction of medical emergencies. Oxygen therapy applied in almost one third of ambulance emergencies, including respiratory problems, cardiac problems, trauma, injuries, stress and panic attacks, and is up to 50 times more common than Defibrillation (see Appendix 2&4). Unfortunately, application of oxygen by non trained personnel may be harmful and even dangerous._x000D__x000D_ARMKit is a Comprehensive Automated Emergency Medicine System that integrates oxygen administration, defibrillation and patient diagnosis with voice instruction for non professional personnel. ARMKit is designed for commercial and public use. A rugged advanced version of ARMKit will be used by security forces, in training and in the field. _x000D__x000D_Oxygen administration, such as by traditional bottle and mask, is often useless and sometimes dangerous. It is often difficult to tell if the patient is breathing and impossible to control oxygen levels per medical guidelines. ARMKit addresses these problems at three levels:_x000D_• ARMKit is equipped with a sensor embedded in the mask indicating the patient’s breathing rate_x000D_• ARMKit’s designed includes a headrest is designed to position the patient’s head alignment and automatically adjust it to open an airway_x000D_• A patented Oxymeter provides oxygen level data used to govern oxygen dosage_x000D_• Oxygen flow is automatically shut down prior to defibrillation to avoid potential fire risk_x000D_ _x000D_ARMKit is intended to replace AEDs, solving a much larger portion of the medical emergencies cases. In addition to headrest and oxygen therapy in includes a full AED, a patented forehead sticker sensor and an on-board medical computer with cellular modem. All components (including disposables) are embedded in the headrest for easy storage and operation. _x000D__x000D_The sticker attached to the forehead wirelessly provides temperature and oxygen (SpO2) information. Blood pressure data is extracted using a patented extrapolation algorithm, eliminating the need for a cuff or sleeve._x000D_ _x000D_The medical computer controls oxygen and defibrillation while instructing the patient or non-trained caregiver to act using a human voice. The computer sends the patient’s vital signs to a cloud computing service using the wireless modem._x000D__x000D_The cloud based emergency medicine server will continuously automatically connect to emergency services and update them of the patient’s location and medical status. Based on medical sensor readings and optionally the patient’s medical profile a patented algorithm will provide automated treatment instructions to non-professional operators for the best treatment._x000D__x000D_ARMKit is the result of collaboration between RSTech Medic, a leading developer of wireless medical sensors from the Netherlands and Inovytec, an emergency medicine start-up from Israel._x000D__x000D_RS TechMedic is a technological leader in the field of real-time cellular transmitting of emergency medical information. RS TechMedic develops and produces the Dyna-Vision line of wireless patient monitors used to transmit vital medical signs to physicians’ phone, emergency services and hospital information systems. Dyna-Vision monitors have received FDA and CE certifications and are distributed around the world by major medical companies._x000D__x000D_Inovytec is a medical startup founded by a group of emergency medicine experts including Dr. Yuval Leonov – ARMKit Medical Director who has over 20 years experience running the emergency care unit in Israel’s Assaf Harofeh Medical Center._x000D__x000D_Development of ARMKit will last 27 months and is expected to cost €1.5M. Product sales are predicted within 36 months after that, due to the lengthy period of testing and legal process required by the FDA, medical CE and similar certifications._x000D__x000D_RS Techmedic’s established network of distributes as well as Zoll, the worlds #3 AED company, will distribute the system to the commercial and civilian market. Inovytec will use its considerable connections in the government and security markets to distribute ARMKit directly to these markets._x000D__x000D_An ARMKit will cost $1,950 MSRP and will cost approx $750 to produce. The system will require replacement of sterile components after each use (mask and tube, sticker sensor and electronic pads). A replacement kit will cost $149 MSRP to replace and approx $37 to produce. Sales of the ARMKit and replacement kits are expected to reach €38M over the first five years of its deployment._x000D_

Acronym ARMKit (Reference Number: 6343)
Duration 01/11/2011 - 31/12/2014
Project Topic An emergency First-Aid system combined of biological sensors, defibrillator, oxygen set and advanced software (local and internet cloud) controlling and directing non professional personnel to assist and save emergency cases, and optimizes their situation until professional help is available
Project Results
(after finalisation)
Development and engineering phase have been successfully completed, as well as Usability Study, safety and environmental tests. We target to receive CE certification in Q3 2015. Inovytec is working with potential distributors in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands and UK, planning together the strategic entry to the European market with great interest from their potential clients. In addition Inovytec signed a collaboration agreement with a Chinese conglomerate P and in process to sign a strategic agreement with a leader distributor of emergency devices in Brazil.
