Project: RISK DETECTION IN LABORATORY INFORMATION SYSTEMS

The project aims to provide a platform for real-time risk detection of incorrect results in the context of clinical Laboratory Information Systems (LIS). _x000D_RELIS starts from the idea that we have the possibility of expressing normal pattern / behavior of laboratory data and we can identify unusual activities or environment parameters in order to raise an alert in a human friendly way for a risk situation._x000D_A risk situation represents a new laboratory result or new data case in which the frequent, strong rules derived from past data are violated._x000D_The CO goal of the project is to provide a real-time identification of non-conforming and possibly incorrect new laboratory results and generation of descriptive alerts which are delivered to the laboratory result legal authenticator. _x000D_Alerts contain a comprehensive, and easy to interpret argumentation for the laboratory personnel. An early identification of risk reveals those tests that are probably incorrect in the lab result and help laboratory personnel decide whether the tests should be repeated. _x000D_Basically, the project consists of two modules: _x000D_• Knowledge Discovery _x000D_• Knowledge Processing_x000D_The aim of “Knowledge Discovery” is to analyze data and extract rules which describes normal relationship between lab result parameters parameters. The module will use association mining for pattern extraction in order to generate association rules that will be used by the Knowledge Processing Module._x000D_The Knowledge Processing module is technologically supported by a rule engine that evaluates the risk based on association rules created by the previous component. The information about rule violation and severity is used to generate alerts with focus on the delivery of actionable, easy to interpret, argumentation for the alert, that shows the severity of the error and explains the factors that lead to error identification. _x000D_The platform serves as a decision support system for the laboratory personnel, with the benefit of early discovery of incorrect results in laboratory bulletins, enabling medical personnel to gain more control over the quality of laboratory services delivered to the patients._x000D_The CO medical technology standards used in the RELIS project are HL7 (Health Level 7) based: CTS – Common Terminology Service (defines the core behavior for managing and COtaining terminologies and vocabularies), RLUS – Retrieve Locate Update Service (for location, retrieval and update of clinical information), CDA – Clinical document architecture (markup standard language that specifies the structure and semantics of clinical documents). From the information technology point we will use data mining and knowledge extraction for the Knowledge Discovery module, business rule engines and WS-Eventing (push model) for Knowledge Processing Module._x000D_The project participants are:_x000D_Info World SRL (Romania) – has a long experience in researching and developing IT solutions for the healthcare market and brings an in-depth expertise in eHealth;_x000D_NoemaLife S.p.A. - enhancement of clinical processes through automation_x000D_Sepp.med GMBH (Germany) - is a reliable and well-established P for development and quality assurance of complex and safety-critical systems;_x000D_Politehnica University of Bucharest (Romania) – oldest and most prestigious technical university in Romania;_x000D_FOKUS - Fraunhofer-Institut für Offene Kommunikationssysteme (Germany) - is developing doCO technology and process specific solutions to support effective and automated system engineering_x000D_
