Project: Next Generation synchronization equipment for DAB and DVB-T

The BroadSync2000 project is aimed at lowering the cost of synchronization for the DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial) and DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) market verticals by providing an easy and smooth migration path from GPS (Global Positioning System) to PTP (Precision Timing Protocol)._x000D__x000D_Being digital transmission technologies, DVB-T and DAB are using an OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation. It includes a "Guard Interval" feature where the receiver ignores the data for a short period around the time when the data changes. Within limits, this allows for the receiver to ignore the effects of multipath reception. The use of the guard interval within a geographical area, also allows single-frequency network (SFN). The reason for using SFN is efficient utilization of the radio spectrum, allowing a higher number of radio and TV programs in comparison to traditional multi-frequency network (MFN) transmission. A SFN may also increase the coverage area and decrease the outage probability in comparison to an MFN, since the total received signal strength may increase to positions midway between the transmitters. The signals from each transmitter in the SFN need to be accurately time-aligned, which is usually done by synchronization signal in the stream and GPS timing at each transmission point._x000D__x000D_The use of GPS in each transmission point adds to the cost of deploying DVB-T or DAB networks. Using PTP based synchronization devices would allow leveraging the IP network for distributing clock signal at a quality required by DVB-T or DAB transmission points hence lowering both CapEx and OpEx by either using lower-cost GPS with PTP as backup or completely rely on PTP reducing the use of GPS receivers to the minimum possible._x000D__x000D_IPClock and VAD will provide the technologies required for a PTP based synchronization device (standalone box) which will enable the operator to easily and smoothly migrate network synchronization from GPS to PTP (no forklift upgrade is required) at an affordable end-user price making it key for long term investment protection._x000D__x000D_The development of a PTP based synchronization device requires the expertise in DVB-T, DAB, GPS receivers, Packet Switched Networks, and clock synchronization over packet. For that reason, IPClock and VAD are cooperating for bringing the most cost effective solution for PTP based synchronization to DVB-T and DAB._x000D__x000D_Being a leader in sync over packet networks, IPClock is developing innovative synchronization over packet solutions addressing the requirements of next generation networks which proved to be High quality, Application agnostic, Cost effective, and Standard compliant sync over packet solution. IPClock’s innovative clock recovery technology handles the task of recovering timing signals over packet networks while complying with timing requirements with high immunity to network impairments. The management and advisory board are composed of experienced communications and synchronization industry veterans each with extensive expertise in developing and marketing carrier-grade solutions for Next-Gen networks._x000D__x000D_VAD has been active in the field of Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) since 1994 and is one of the leading companies who develop and manufacture test and measuring equipment for digital broadcasting (DAB, DVB-T/H). VADs product portfolio comprises synchronization products applying GPS receiver, Rubidium frequency standard, advanced oscillator and frequency distribution technology. The company brings the ability and experience to build and test complete devices for professional use into this joint project._x000D_
