Project: Development of an innovative, customizable, modular product-service solution for efficient and sustainable water treatment.

In view of massive environmental challenges, many water treatment plants need to be dramatically modernized in the EU. Additionally, emerging markets urgently require water treatment solutions that are flexible and adaptive, as well as effective for a wide range of waste-water types and higher volumes, while being affordable. The Hydronet-II project addresses the fundamental key technologies and services to satisfy these requirements: the Hydronet-II project rises from the results and limitations of the ongoing Hydronet-I Project (Swiss funded, KTI-9171.1). The Hydronet-I project objective is to develop the design, production system, and implementation of a decentralized water treatment system to be deployed in the EU as well as in emerging markets. The project is based on a network of smaller, localized, interlinked and waste-specific purification plants fostering the new air flotation technology: it focuses on the technological means for a water purification revolution. _x000D_But, this aspect alone will not meet the goal: the technological achievements NEED to cope with the management of the whole life-cycle of the plant (from configuration, selling, management, COtenance, dismantle), and with the related tech modifications and IT demands._x000D_The scope of Hydronet-II is then to develop an innovative, high-performing, full-optional, lifecycle oriented, (almost) self-selling, water-treatment solution (composed of tangible and intangible modules)._x000D__x000D_In order to accomplish this ambitious goal, Hydronet-II focus on a well defined set of RTD objectives to be achieved:_x000D__x000D_1- Assessment and tech evolution-refitting of the HYDRONET-I, in order to achieve a flexible, customizable water-treatment systems with the following characteristics:_x000D_- content-wise modularity: development of different integrable modules with different tech capabilities, to cope with varying input-water conditions (also biological characteristics) and required output-water conditions_x000D_- size-wise modularity: each module will be available in three set of sizes, in order to properly adapt to different scenario._x000D__x000D_2- Definition and implementation of the Hydronet Configuration Service composed by the following: _x000D_- requirement definition module: this module is meant to depict the customer (the final stakeholder and user of the Hydronet system) requirements and to formalize them together with his expectations. _x000D_- co-design module: this module is meant to embody customers expectation into system design inputs, to ease stakeholders contribution to the system design process, allowing customer system dimensioning and personalization since a very early design phase_x000D_- rapid configuration-simulation module: together with the design module, this tool will enable the effective and efficient configuration and simulation of a full-system and its performance in everyday utilization scenarios, giving a reliable visualization of system integration into real installation locations and collecting feedbacks on the design phase. The module will also store various configurations performances to continuously shortening the time between requirements expression and system manufacturing. It is to be noted that the country of installation is an important parameter not only for legislation, but for technical contents as well (availability of tech, standards…)_x000D_- rapid quotation tool: this module is aimed at shortening the time between system configuration and full system cost estimation, also defining proper project-financing patterns_x000D__x000D_3- Definition and implementation of the assembling/COtenance assistance service, composed by the following:_x000D_- “improved-by-experience” training solution, based on virtual environments, for the rapid assembling of the system intended. This solution is meant to train water-treatment system manufacturer employees in assembling procedures, to provide online assistance and problem-solving features to above mentioned employees and to store employees suggestions and tips for training and assistance continuous improvement._x000D_- “improved-by-experience” usage and COtenance solution, based on virtual environments, meant to support system startup procedures, system COtenance procedures, new employees coaching._x000D_- Training for dramatic-hazardous events, to enable fast reaction and recovery._x000D__x000D_4- Definition and implementation of the system performance measurement and monitor, meant to provide performance measurement patterns to monitor and fine-tune the system. Moreover these information will enable constant improvement of the system itself and will provide feedback on the design processes (matching and storing system performances and boundary conditions)_x000D__x000D_5- Definition of the system retrieval and dismissing decision support system, pursuing the goals of supporting users in determining system obsolescence and suggesting system obsolescence management procedures.
