Project: Smart Energy-Storing Modular Technology with advanced Energy Management System for Renewable Energy Systems

The European Union aims to become a low-carbon economy by incrementing the share of renewable energy consumption and increasing in energy efficiency. Consequently, it has caused a surge in the growth of renewable energy sources connected to the electricity grid, modifying traditional concept of central and unidirectional distribution network. SMARES project is presented as an innovative solution for the proper deployment of European and worldwide electricity grid. SMARES proposes the development of the main exponent of the next generation of Flexible AC transmission system: a Smart Energy-Storing Modular Technology with advanced Energy Management System for Renewable Energy Systems. The drive is to offer a low-cost, 50% cost saving, modular multilevel converter (MMC) for renewable energy integration and grid distribution quality improvements, capable to meet with required grid connection standards in different countries.
