Project: fleXchange - Flexible Grid for Rural Quarters with Smart Storage Architecture

Acronym fleXchange (Reference Number: 89116)
Duration 01/07/2018 - 30/06/2021
Project Topic The project’s main goal is demonstration and evaluation of a Smart Grid in a rural/neighbourhood quarter that enables a flexible exchange of energy within a regional quarter. By leveraging energy storages, the implementation of a regional energy management system and the establishment of a local energy market, the share of local renewable energy sources (RES) will be increased. This relieves the load on the power grid by minimizing grid feed and consumption, and reduces power losses due to unnecessary power transformation and transmission. In addition, the project deals with the opportunities and challenges posed by a growing number of electric vehicles (EV). Assessment of the results will take place at two demonstration sites: a rural village (DE) and a city neighbourhood (NO). Here, the developed solutions will be tested in a real environment. Evaluation of end-user acceptance is undertaken and is a vital step on the path to achieve consumer acceptance and adoption of the new concept
