CROSSTEXNET

Textiles at the Cross Roads of New Applications

Basic Information

Description

Co-ordinated by the Region of Nord-Pas de Calais, CROSSTEXNET draws together 17 research funding agencies on regional and national level in a co-operation project aiming at “making more and smarter funding available to European textile research, on a permanent basis, by exploiting the potentials of international co-ordination and programming of research programmes.

Main research priorities of the network

1.Textiles as a new material •To improve weight strength ratio (i.e. leading to lower energy use when applied in automotive) •To improve thermoregulatory properties (i.e. for personal protection or constructions). •To improve the performance (i.e. 3 dimensional shapes in composites materials) This can be achieved by tapping into progress in nanotubes, hybrid organic/non organic multiblock polymers, refined or synthesized bio-fibers. Textiles provide a lead market for advanced materials by developing applications and appropriate technologies enabling market deployment. 2.Textiles technologies to modify the properties of existing materials To obtain different or substantial improvements (i.e. nanotechnology: responsive hydrogels linkage to PP for anti bacteria, antifungi or trans-dermal transport to deliver medical properties; electronics/sensors: integration of electronics into geo-textiles and for detecting breaks or for online monitoring of heat stress
