Project: Professional Intergenerational Cooperation & Mentoring

Acronym ProMe (Reference Number: aal-2013-6-026)
Duration 01/04/2014 - 01/07/2017
Project Topic ProMe seeks to improve an occupational lifestyle for older adults in the transition from work to retirement and beyond in order to preserve health and enable intergenerational knowledge transfer using skills and competencies based on experience. As older adults acquire a considerable amount of professional formal and tacit knowledge throughout their life course, our vision is to harness this. We aim to achieve professional intergenerational cooperation and mentoring via an online service platform, bringing together older adults with younger generations. In contrast to already existing professional social network sites (e.g., Xing, LinkedIn), ProMe is based on theoretical concepts for mentoring and allows knowledge transfer by taking over different “mentoring roles”, according to one’s own capabilities. Thereby, the platform will offer different means of communication and will offer a variety of functionalities, for example Video/Text-Chat, Email, Blogs, Forums, etc. ProMe is more than just another professional social network site but encourages older adults to share their professional knowledge and expertise with their peers or younger generations, including those who are seeking career or more general life advice. By taking over a role as a mentor, ProMe allows older adults to take an active role in social and working life, even after retirement. This, in turn, creates value for the society and economy as a whole. ProMe will create high potential for a viable business case by using (apart from creating new innovative functionalities) existing software components for the different functionalities and thus lower costs and shorten the time to go to the market. Moreover, end users’ wishes and needs are actually addressed by involving them throughout the whole development process.
