Project: optimizing the Workplace of ELderly Laborers: BE IN Good health!

Acronym wellbeing (Reference Number: aal-2013-6-063)
Duration 01/06/2014 - 01/06/2017
Project Topic A significant number of jobs require older adults (55+) to sit for eight hours (or even longer) while performing their tasks. In combination with not ergonomically designed working places and only little exercising, severe health problems can arise. Furthermore cognitive capabilities decrease, whereas the stress level increases. This leads a reduced quality of life of older adults due to physical (e.g. back) and psychological (e.g. stress) problems. Wellbeing offers a holistic system, combining physical exercises, workplace ergonomics, nutritional balance and stress management in order to ensure a healthy life at the workplace, especially focusing on the needs of older adults. Since older adults are working in very diverse fields, the project focuses on the main thing they all have in common in order to reach a broad target group: performing their job in a sitting position for a longer period of time. Hence the project supports e.g. secretaries, office clerks, technicians, lawyers at the same level. All modules use a 3D sensor together with a RGB camera to provide feedback and to inform on how to change unhealthy situations (e.g. sitting position, malnutrition, too less water consumption, etc.). Due to the combination with social exergames, the motivation to use the service is increased. Wellbeing will be offered as a product-service bundle, combining the sensor (product) and an online platform (service). The product will be sold as a yearly abonnement. Moreover, insurances and companies from Germany and Austria are already integrated in the advisory board and offer additional distribution channels. End-Users are integrated throughout the project via telephone, questionnaires and interviews. Additionally, the system development is closely coupled to the field pilots as well as the end user requirement analysis ensuring a good amount of high quality feedback.
