Project: eCare @ home

Acronym eCH (Reference Number: aal-2012-5-238)
Duration 01/02/2013 - 01/08/2016
Project Topic 1. Challenges addressed: The availability of both offline and online interventions and self-support solutions for elderly at home, wide spread in Europe - are still limited.Often these are not tailored to the heterogeneous needs of the elderly and their care givers. This may partly explained by a lack of involvement of elderly and informal care givers in the development of these services. 2. Target groups for the AAL-solution proposal is elderly with or without mental health complaints living independently at home and elderly with potential risk of mental disorder living at home. 3. Technology to be employed: the cornerstone of the solution from technical perspective is the userPad which is an extremely user friendly hand held device for users with low or no computer literacy. It will be used for health follow up and assessments, communication with friends and family, and to simplify daily routines of the end users. Its exclusive graphical user interface provides simplified and very inclusive ‘service interaction’ on a tablet. A hybrid-based development approach will be used to allow easy porting to various hand held-platforms, like Windows 8, Android or iOS. Informal or formal care givers will be provided will use carePads with the user interface specifically tailored for their needs and competence, for registering health parameters during home visits. 4. Business model: the eCH consortium will continue to take responsibility and ownership for the main code of the module, until a financial or a more apprehensive investor is ready to continue the development. The right to sell the product will be organized in two ways: local competent sales agents with documented market access and the consortium partners can found sales companies in specific areas 5.End user involvement is the core of the project methodology. The project process will concentrates on understanding of‘’end-users’’ needs, testing new concepts on early stage.
