Project: Collaborative and interMEdiating solution for managing Daily Activities for The Elderly at home

Acronym MEDiATE (Reference Number: aal-2012-5-171)
Duration 01/06/2013 - 01/09/2015
Project Topic MEDiATE is a “Collaborative and interMEdiating solution for Managing Daily Activities for The Elderly at home”. The objective is to design, build and experiment a multi-stakeholder communication and organizational solution, providing a rich and open service environment in support of the elderly‘s care-givers and more broadly of all functional needs taking place within their social environment that has to be facilitated and coordinated. Acknowledging that there are already, on the one hand existing platforms to help the elderly and organize the work of the formal network partners (present in MEDiATE ecosystem) and on the other platforms for interactions between the elderly and informal helpers, there is a need to reinforce the interactions “between and among” informal and formal carers without a centralized actor that would have to know everything. MEDiATE focuses on the role of and support given to the informal network, aiming at enhancing the capacities of each ones of its members, regarding their possible complementary role with the elderly’s formal network, or the emergence of new services they can bring up thanks to their expertise or sense of initiative. The fundamental originality of MEDiATE is to build upon this multi-talent openness and active implication of all informal stakeholders, in the design, testing and dissemination of both formal and informal services, aiming at enriching the overall supportive capability to the elderly, in particular reinforcing the linkage between the social and medical strands of the care delivered. Finally, let us emphasize that MEDIATE makes the best of, but at the same time is independent from existing platforms, therefore conveying a high level of interoperability. The local potential of the networks supported by the MEDIATE solution will be shared at a higher European-wide level for best practice exchange, training of trainers, software maintenance and ethical governance purposes (user community level).
