Project Topic 1. Challenges addressed and AAL-solutions proposed The goal of the project is the enhancement of self confidence, mobility and security of eldery suffering from hearing loss for a better social well being. The considered situations are the urban settings and confined public space (station, airport, museum, car, metro, bus...). The Audio Aged Sensitive (AAS) ICT systems planned to be developped are smart loudspeakers for better intelligibility and alarm design and alarm recognition for better localisation. They will be designed to be transparent and incorporated in mainstream products. The project adresses indoor and outdoor mobility as well as psychological aspects. 2. Target groups for the AAL-solution proposal Hearing loss is the third impairment of eldery people : 1/4 over 65 suffers from hearing loss, 1/2 at 75, 4/5 at >85. 3. Technology to be employed Two transversal researches will be conducted : (i) presbyacusis compensation : smart speakers and an acoustic window acting as a speaker will be developped for that purpose and (ii) evaluation of the perception : a protocol measuring the alteration auditory perception will be elaborated through a simulation software 4. Business model The goal is to design solutions embedded in mainstream products at acceptable costs for the general population.
