Project: Digital Outdoor and Safety System

Acronym DOSSy (Reference Number: aal-2011-4-108)
Duration 01/09/2012 - 01/09/2014
Project Topic 1. Challenges addressed and AAL-solutions proposed The project DOSSy addresses safety aspects for outdoor activities, especially for elderly people, whose major concern for outdoor activities is the safety while being outdoor. Whereas safety aspects have been widely addressed at home (in-house emergency calls), there are almost no solutions that support safety aspects for outdoor activities and no solution that addresses the networking aspects for such systems to increase safety (such as automatic or semi-automatic emergency detection and the link to the emergency call centre). 2. Target groups for the AAL-solution proposal Elderly, outdoor enthusiats, who, due to their age and constitution, are more concerned about safety than younger outdoor fans and for which safety is a critical factor to carry out their hobbies. 3. Technology to be employed Mobile devices, especially for outdoor environments, a commnunity for user generated content and a system for publishers to deploy high quality content on a on-demand basis. A mobile app with a smart software for detecting possible emergencies and which provides useful information to the user and which is linked to an emergency call centre. 4. Business model There are different business models, which are subject to a comprehensive evaluation during the project. Since there are multiple players involved, the most sustainable model has yet to be found. 5. End user participation The main focus is on the end user, who will be involved in all project phases for requirement assements as well as for user field trials in the middle and the end of the project. End user organizations as well as solid user databases from SME partners guarantee the continuous involvement of the users.
