Project: Assistant for Better Mobility and Improved Cognition of Elderly Blind and Visually Impaired

Project Topic People that have impaired visual cognitive system are facing problems with overall contextual understanding of space semantics and have serious difficulties with planning and navigational skills. Target group of this project are principally people in age group called young old with vision impairments as the system will allow them to manage their everyday life more independently. The Alice device will combine research developments in computer vision, cognitive sciences, psychology, artificial intelligence and robot navigation. Alice will be sold through different channels such as retail stores with medical equipment. Device will be promoted by unions’ of blind and partially sighted and unions of elderly. Blind users will be in charge to determine the user experience (UX) of the system. Cognitive abilities will be asessed by comparing interpretation with users perception of the environment.
