Project: Personal Protection and Caring System

Acronym 2PCS (Reference Number: aal-2010-3-145)
Duration 01/07/2011 - 01/01/2014
Project Topic 1. Challenges addressed and AAL-solutions proposed: The loss of mobility of elderly people reduces their independence and their participation in the self-serve society. This is often caused by subjective insecurity, individual fears, temporary disorientation and the lack of ad hoc information access. A “watch like” personal device with localisation technologies, audio communication, fall detection, cardiac sensors plus new emergency and information call centre services helps to regain mobility. 2. Target groups for the AAL-solution proposal: In general elderly people with the capability of being mobile are addressed. The solution is aligned to diverse life phases of the primary end-user to serve the individual needs and requirements. Through this characteristic the acceptance rate is expected to rise significantly. 3. Technology to be employed: The solution will feature an innovative mix of state-of-the-art technologies, combined onto a single PCB. The composition of GSM/GPRS, GPS and RF components grants the product a unique way of locating outdoors and indoors during emergencies or info requests. Further features will be achieved through speakers, LEDs, fall detection, cardiac sensors and a maintenance platform. 4. Business model: The solution will be distributed by a joint venture. B2B and B2C channels will be used to reach primary/secondary end-users. A private edition will be distributed through wholesalers, retailers and a B2C platform. A home edition is placed at sector retailers, the B2C platform and through NGO's. A business edition will only by available through a partner network. 5. End user participation: Primary/secondary end-users will be strongly involved in the development of the solution. Test environments and use-cases will be implemented in two elderly homes, in a clinic for stationary and ambulant care, under assisted living circumstances and end-users living at home. Approx. 250 concurrent primary end-users will participate.
