Project: Smart system for the management of Heart Failure in older adults

Acronym SmartBEAT (Reference Number: aal-2014-1-157)
Duration 01/05/2015 - 01/11/2018
Project Topic Supporting senior Heart Failure patients, their family, relatives and friends, cardiologists and general healthcare professionals accessing innovative ICT solutions that promote an easier, wider and sustainable access to healthcare is the main goal of the SmartBEAT project. This goal will be achieved through the development of an integrated mobile AAL solution capable of acquiring physiological data and adequately process, manage and report these data to the formal and informal caregivers. To do this, four main modules will be used: a mobile vital signs monitoring component capable of recording all physiological measurements needed to adequately monitor the health status of these patients, two support application frameworks responsible for the communication with the users and their carers and an innovative intelligence component which will process all the acquired and environmental data to produce relevant knowledge offering an overall approach where patients and caregivers can define their interests and receive curated and valuable information from several information sources. SmartBEAT integrates these technologies into a single useful and realistic solution. The market for SmartBEAT is quite promising: it is influenced by the demographic change, increase of HF diseases and associated impairments and by the wide acceptance and penetration of mobile technologies and mHealth applications. SmartBEAT offers an innovative ICT solution within 1-2 years after the project finalization. SmartBEAT services will be assessed in real life conditions with SmartBEAT end users. In fact, the role of end-users in the project is essential to its development as they shall be starring each of the project’s stages. All information gathered during the project/pilot tests will be used for the subsequent dissemination of results and market implementation, always preserving the privacy of the involved end-users.
