Project: Fiber Reinforced Plastic Fluid Power manifold for high performance applications

The consortium will develop the project focusing on research and development of fluid power manifolds: from this point of view the CO final aim of the project is obtain an industrial-ready process to manufacture fluid power manifolds made of FRP. Fluid power manifolds made of FRP represent the first industrial step to accomplish in order to apply the FRP technology to further fluid power components._x000D_ _x000D_FRP manifolds present in fact all technical challenges common to other components:_x000D_- High mechanical stress due to high pressure (200 bar)_x000D_- High operational temperature due to temperature of power fluid (120 °C)_x000D_- Interface between FRP material and metallic material where are needed mechanical connections with other components: for example steel threads for connection with cartridge valves._x000D_- Complex geometry_x000D_- Vast deployment in several and different sectors_x000D_- High cost of production with traditional machining process_x000D_At the same time FRP manifolds are the simplest components to develop the FRP technology due to the absence of moving parts.

Acronym FRP.Flow-Comp (Reference Number: 7445)
Duration 01/09/2012 - 31/08/2014
Project Topic This project aims to bring into fluid power industry a completely new class of composite materials FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic), to enable metal replacement and simultaneously overcome limits of current composite materials.
