Project: Energy Efficient PET Cancer Diagnostics: Novel RF Source for Radioisotope Production

Acronym ENEFRF (Reference Number: 11654)
Duration 01/01/2018
Project Topic When using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) for cancer diagnostics, the radioisotope 18F is used for diagnostics. By using the 18F isotope for diagnostics it is possible to determine the exact location and size of a tumour in a body. 18F is produced at site using a cyclotron where protons are accelerated by a Radio Frequency (RF) electric field. This project intends to develop a new type of RF source for cyclotrons reducing the system cost and downtime.
