Project: Assistant for DAily LIfe Activities at Home

Acronym DALIA (Reference Number: aal-2012-5-249)
Duration 01/04/2013 - 01/04/2016
Project Topic DALIA (Assistant for Daily Life Activities at Home) will provide an integrated home system that supports older adults as primary end-users, offers support to their informal carers as secondary end-users, and can be extended to interface with services of formal care and medical services. Older adults will be supported in mastering their daily life tasks, for instance controlling the TV or finding lost objects. Informal carers will be supported for instance with learning material about care related to the needs of the cared-for older adult. DALIA thus complements existing AAL solutions by i) offering a Personal Virtual Assistant (PVA) available on existing consumer technology such as TV and smartphones, a human-looking avatar endowed with speech recognition and speech capabilities to hide the technical complexities of the offered services behind, ii) a secure server architecture, iii) integrating both older adults and informal carers into a single “universe” and iv) providing a wide range of innovative services. The services offered by the DALIA system will be designed from the beginning on with a strong target user involvement. This is reflected in the workplan, where user-centered requirements engineering activities stand at the very beginning of the project, and design studies with target end-users as well as user evaluations are carried on throughout this project. Via DALIA's consortium partners, DALIA will have access to target end-users in three countries. The DALIA solution will be mature enough to reach the market 2-3 years after project end. Two parallel strategies will be followed: each consortium partner shall be enabled to sell the whole solution or parts of it via direct selling, but licensed selling by a strong business partner like an insurance company or external service providers later on is also encouraged.
