Project: Elderly friendly MObility Services for Indoor and Outdoor sceNarios

Acronym E-MOSION (Reference Number: aal-2011-4-141)
Duration 01/07/2012 - 01/07/2015
Project Topic Mobile devices, applications and services are integrated into our daily lives on a personal and professional level. For elderly people, ICT-based solutions provide an excellent support to lead them dynamic and independent. E-MOSION aims at enabling integral outdoor and indoor localization and mobility services for elderly people with age-related sensory (visual, auditory) and cognitive impairments that help them in their daily routine activities far from home. E-MOSION deals with those key activities for their autonomous living - such as shopping or banking- and with a particular societal benefit (e.g. accompanying grandchildren), procuring active and convenient engagement of all relevant stakeholders. E-MOSION works with new mobility and location assistance algorithms based on hybrid high-accurate space and terrestrial technologies and the consideration of new easy-to-wear, easy-to-use portable devices suited to the target users. The services should be able to take into account health-related, weather-related, and transport-related issues when offering mobility suggestions, as well as to direct call-for-help to the proper agent whenever needed to ensure users safety and self-confidence. Smart payment is also considered. E-MOSION applies in its business models multiple segmentation options to appeal attractive to the target customer groups - elderly above the age of 60 and their family, who might be buying the service for their senior parents. We consider elderly people that live independently at home (either alone or with partner/family) and are considering themselves hampered in their daily activities due to having vision impairment, and/or chronic disease and/or sensing a minor forgetfulness or dementia caused by ageing. In order to validate the results, and speed up the commercial adoption of our approach, we plan to set up a demonstrator with real end users that tests our application and provide feedback that will be used for future improvements.
