Project: The universal system for independent and interconnected living at home

Acronym GAALaxy (Reference Number: aal-2015-2-140)
Duration 01/05/2016 - 01/11/2018
Project Topic 1. Challenges addressed and AAL-solutions proposed Both the AAL and house automation markets are booming. However, there are no market-ready alliances to bundle both technologies despite their great potential of complementing each other. gAALaxy meets this potential and incorporates affordable, accessible and retrofittable solutions into one technologybundle, enabling age-appropriate, holistic home care solutions and supporting the individual’s desire to live autonomously, self-reliant and socially active in a familiar environment. 2. Target groups for the AAL-solution proposal gAALaxy addresses elderly individuals living at home and incorporates their social environment including family and friends as well as informal and formal care giving organisations and service providers. 3. Technology to be employed The software architecture strongly relies on a scalable, extensible, customisable and interoperable middleware that enables innovative AAL solutions to be connected to affordable and retrofittable smart home systems. Interfaces to the various components of the gAALaxy bundle and interfaces to third-party components that do not yet offer standardized interfaces as well as a scalable user-management will be developed. 4. Business model The gAALaxy Association (NPO) will continuously build new alliances between promising solutions of the smart home market and AAL-technologies. It establishes a comprehensive information and consultancy service for all end-users within the AAL-world. Solution providers can become a member to both integrate their solution into the gAALaxy technology and to position their product onto the meaningful markets of AAL and home automation systems. 5. End user articipation PE (300), informal (300) and formal (120) SE and service providers (80) are strongly involved in the whole innovation process. An end-user driven methodology is applied by the large scale testing of the echnology-bundle within the international pilot.
