Acronym Home4Dem (Reference Number: aal-2014-1-041)
Duration 01/09/2015 - 01/09/2018
Project Topic CHALLENGES ADDRESSED BY THE PROJECT AND AAL-SOLUTION PROPOSED. Dementia represents a major burden for modern societies and moreover it affects many family caregivers on whom the bulk of care falls. Dementia caregiving might be supported by leveraging the potentials of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), however, the market availability of such solutions is far from optimal. Home4Dem aims to develop and market an innovative ICT platform to improve the quality of life of People with Dementia (PwD) and their caregivers, enabling them to live at home independently and to maintain an active social life. The envisaged AAL-solution will be an innovative and modular, third generation, ICT platform, created by integrating two existing systems into one: the Italian "Up-Tech" and the Swiss DomoCareTM system. TARGET GROUP OF THE PROPOSAL. PwD and their informal and formal caregivers. TECHNOLOGIES TO BE EMPLOYED. The AAL solution will include: a) sensors for home safety used by Up-Tech and DomoCare; b) additional sensors, e.g. emergency button, humidity and temperature alerts, anti-theft alarms, etc. c) a new kinect-based depth-analysis function, which provide more accurate information and feedback to the user himself regarding user activities such as reminders for food intake or adherence to drug prescriptions; d) a smart behavior analysis algorithm which will interact with the users, providing real-time feedback in the home. BUSINESS MODEL. The ICT solution will be offered as a product for families in the market to answer their personal needs (safety, support, prevention). Additionally, the ICT solution enhances the effectiveness of existing care and social services. In this case, the professional carers will be the primary users. END USERS PARTICIPATION. End users will take part in all project activities starting from the baseline context analysis, through the design and development of the solution, ending with the pilot. Over 600 end-users will be involved.
